Dr. Carl J. Gessler, Jr. Appointed to Airport Authority Board of Directors
The Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority today announced Dr. Carl J. Gessler, Jr. has been appointed to its Board of Directors by the City of Huntsville and Madison County Commission. The joint appointment is a six-year term and begins immediately.
Upon this appointment, Dr. Gessler, stated, “I am extremely eager to begin working with the Airport Authority to further its mission to provide quality multi-modal transportation services to a diverse regional customer base and to stimulate the economic growth and development of the Tennessee Valley region. The Port of Huntsville plays a vital role in the future of our community, and I am honored to serve with such an outstanding team.”
Dr. Gessler is a cardiologist specializing in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiology as well as cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular ultrasound. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Gessler is a graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic, Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. His fellowship in cardiovascular disease was completed at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Gessler is a Trustee Emeritus of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, also serving as Director of Government Relations for the Alabama Chapter and a member of the national Legislative Advocacy Group. In 2008, he was the inaugural recipient of the American Heart Association's Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Gessler’s other professional affiliations include membership within the American Society of Echocardiology, the Alabama Medical Association and the Madison County Medical Society.
Dr. Gessler and his wife, Sarah Westbrook Gessler, live in Huntsville and are active members of the Espiscopal Church of the Nativity where he served as a past Junior and Senior Warden of the Vestry. Dr. and Mrs. Gessler have three children – Lauren Gessler Rowe, Kristen Grace Gessler and Carl John Gessler, III.
