HSV Earns FAA Southern Region Safety Award & Mark of Distinction Award

Huntsville International Airport (HSV) has been honored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for superior safety operations. During the annual FAA Airport Safety Conference, which was held January 28-29 in Atlanta, HSV earned top honors as the recipient of the Southern Region Air Carrier Airport Safety Award. The prestigious award was presented to HSV for its exemplary safety operations among more than 100 Part 139 airports within an eight-state region. In applying for the award, HSV highlighted its work at initiating five highly successful programs designed to enhance air carrier safety and day-to-day operations management, including electronic records management; fuel safety management; wildlife hazard improvements; scheduled airfield maintenance; and consolidated airport operations.

Doug Kreulen, Director of Operations, Huntsville International Airport, attributes the airport’s continued success and 13 years with zero FAA infractions to three key areas, including support from senior management, his department’s desire to continuously improve airport operations, and his team of dedicated employees and supervisors. “The recognition of our program by the FAA with the Southern Region Air Carrier Airport Safety Award reiterates our commitment to providing our passengers with the safest possible air travel conditions and underscores the consistent hard work                Left to right - Doug Kreulen, Director of

In addition to the Southern Region Air Carrier Airport Safety Award, HSV earned the FAA’s Mark of Distinction Award. This award was developed to promote safety among the FAA Southern Region certificated airports and to recognize any action, effort, or event involving an airport that deserves praise for its intended or demonstrated effect on the advancement of safety.
