NAVISTAR growth in the Tennessee Valley
![]() |
Navistar International Corporation agreed to lease the National Alabama railcar plant in Colbert County in the fall and took possession of the facility on January 1. Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), the state’s pension system, owns the plant. The company also retained the existing operations and the workforce of about 120 people. Navistar has not released its plans for the railcar plant facility at this time.
The expansion of Navistar in the Tennessee Valley allows the company to take advantage of its current presence in the Port of Huntsville Jetplex Industrial Park. The company has two engine plants that opened in 2002 and 2008, and currently employs 400 people. The RSA and the Huntsville/Madison County Airport Authority were instrumental in recruiting Navistar to Huntsville. The success of those operations led Navistar back to North Alabama with this new venture. View the entire article.
